When the gift isn't the gift, it is the Gift

Christmas admittedly, was different this year.

A family member fell ill, schedules were cleared, daily hospital visits were underway, and suddenly, the Christmas plans we originally made faded away into safekeeping for another year.

Specifically, Christmas Eve.

The family member who was ill was very distraught that the usual decoration, celebration and festivities were not to be. At this point, the goal was just to make it home for Christmas.

In the midst of all of this, when they said "I didn't buy Christmas gifts for anyone."

And that is when I said, "But sweetie, you are the gift."

It was a reminder to me of this: Every year, I look forward to the lights, the music, the gatherings, the candlelight services, the early morning coffee by the lights of the Christmas tree.

Most of all, my family and friends .. this is my heart.

Though challenged, we found a way through the season.

Two ladies groups offered their home and hospitality. I am grateful for their encouragement offered to our family.

In a few days, 2026 will be here, and we will likely still be dealing with some of what we all carried (who doesn't, after all?)

May we know the gift that is the Gift. That God really does live with us. That we matter to Him, and all of our heartaches and hurdles are important to Him.

Wrapped with an eternal ribbon, our hearts are kept in His love.
